My Locksmith Stories

In 1995, I started on a journey to become a locksmith. It was the most practical thing to do for a person who loved solving problems. It was also an awesome thing to pursue for a person who loved undoing another person's security design. I spent most of my spare time reading about locks or taking old locks apart. I learned pretty quickly the trade of a locksmith. When I was put on the road, the real adventures started.
Going on the road meant I was invited into the areas that few people normally seen. A bedroom closet that concealed a safe, a marriage that was ending, evictions that removed families from their home, a break-in in the middle of the night or even a new home sale or a upgrade to a persons home security. I was exposed to a world that had been hidden by people's smiles or a person's embarrassment. I felt like a doctor or lawyer that becomes privy to their clients deepest secrets. I also realized that these customers trusted me to take care of them.
In the next year I would like to share my stories from the road. I have seen a woman, that was locking her husband out, get slapped right in front of my face. I have been in multiple situations where women came onto me and I was forced to reject them. I have been asked to open a bank vault, a jail cell and asked to make keys for cars; all from people who did not have permission to do have access to these areas. I walked away from one job in my whole career and it haunts me to this day. All these stories are interesting and help a person to understand the complexity of a locksmith.
I would also like to see the honor and respect, of the locksmith trade, restored. This blog will help to tell my story as well as bring interest to a very important trade. I hope to hear feedback from locksmiths, non-locksmiths and future locksmiths.
